The EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR)
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR) sets out standard guidelines for companies and public bodies in the EU on the processing of personal data. The regulation places the onus of compliance on companies that collect, process, store, transmit and analyze personal data. Transitional provisions are in place until May 25, 2018, after which companies must put the new requirements into practice. Any that fail to comply after the transitional period ends risk fines of up to 20 million euros or 4 % of global revenue, whichever is the higher.
